In the realm of politics, deception, and hypocrisy are not uncommon. However, the recent antics of the Edo State Government, led by the enigmatic MOU governor, have reached a new zenith of absurdity.

The same Ogie Osarodion, who brazenly told Media union leaders to “go to hell” during a meeting in July 2022, is now being paraded as the Deputy Governor candidate on the platform of the PDP. This sudden volte-face raises fundamental questions highlighting the deception in his personality, and the nature of politics and leadership in Edo State.

As the ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, said, “The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” The Edo State Government’s imposition of crisis, leading to the sack and forced retirement of staff, is a stark reminder of the dangers of apathy. The union leaders’ sophisticated arguments, rooted in reason and justice, were met with disdain and arrogance by Ogie Osarodion. His retort, “We won’t come to ask for your votes again,” betrays a profound disregard for the democratic process and the people’s voices.

Now, the same individual is begging for votes, a stark contradiction that reeks of desperation, deception, and self-interest. This brazen display of political hypocrisy is a slap in the face of the people of Edo State, who have suffered under the yoke of oppressive governance.

As the German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, said, “You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.” The chaos of Edo State’s political landscape demands a new trajectory, a fresh air that rejects the toxic politics of the past. This is what the MODEN mandate represents.

We, the people, shall not be swayed by empty promises, deceitful rhetoric, and leaders with no scruples or ethical standards. We shall rise, like the phoenix from the ashes, and demand a new era of leadership that prioritizes the people’s needs, ladened with empathy and people centrism and not that of personal interests. The “Ekiti treatment” which is a testament to the power of the people’s will, shall be our guiding light.

To the powers that be, we say, “You have murdered sleep and shall sleep no more.” The time for change is now!
