The Emerging Abuja Program has unveiled plans to launch the inaugural 16-day Groovy December festival, featuring a vibrant mix of culture, entertainment, and adventure, aiming to position the Federal Capital Territory as Nigeria’s premier tourism destination and drive economic growth, according to iReporter Online.

Chairman of the Groovy December Committee, Imoh Ebang, speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, questioned why Nigeria has yet to fully capitalize on its vast opportunities by turning its potential into wealth for its citizens.

According to iReporter Online, Ebang said, “On our little secret, we have a vision, primarily dedicated to contributing our quota in positioning Abuja as a tourism hub of the nation.”

He explained that the festival, running from December 15th to 31st starting in 2025, will feature over 35 events including jazz festivals, afrobeats concerts, cultural displays, water sports like kayaking, car races, fashion shows, and competitions with cash prizes, with Moshood Abiola Stadium hosting the majority of activities.

According to iReporter Online, Ebang emphasized the festival’s goal to make Abuja Groovy December the must-attend year-end event in Nigeria, offering a unique blend of entertainment, cultural immersion, and experiences that surpass other regional festivals in scale and appeal.

Ebang highlighted the need for Nigerians to become tourism ambassadors to promote the country’s culture and attract global visitors, while calling for increased investments in tourism infrastructure and stronger community security efforts to improve the sector’s development and perception.

He urged collaboration among government, private sector, diaspora, and media to boost tourism revenue, create jobs, and firmly establish Abuja as a top tourism destination.

The program is designed not to compete with the Calabar Festival but to complement it, with former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia serving as its Brand Ambassador.
