Ghana Appoint Carlos Queiroz As New Black Stars Head Coach Ahead Of 2026 World Cup

According to Ireporter Online, the Ghana Football Association has officially confirmed the appointment of Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team, Ghana national football team, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to hold in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The decision, announced on Monday, April 13, followed deliberations by the GFA Executive Council in collaboration with key stakeholders. Queiroz is expected to assume duty immediately as the Black Stars intensify preparations for the global tournament set to kick off on June 11, 2026. The former Real Madrid and Portugal coach brings extensive World Cup experience, having previously led multiple national teams on football’s biggest stage, including South Africa, Portugal, and Iran, across four different editions of the competition.

The GFA noted that his international coaching experience across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East was a major factor in his appointment, expressing confidence that his pedigree would strengthen Ghana’s rebuilding process. His arrival follows the departure of Otto Addo on March 31, after Ghana’s underwhelming performances in recent fixtures and their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite a squad featuring top Premier League talents.

Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17, 2026, before facing heavyweight clashes against England and Croatia in the group stage.
