Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, returned to power after winning the December 2024 election. He will be taking over from President Nana Akufo-Addo, who served from 2017 to 2025.

Following his election, Mahama visited President Tinubu in December. According to a statement from Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the two leaders share a strong personal relationship, reflective of the historic ties between Nigeria and Ghana.

The statement also highlighted that President Tinubu, in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other African leaders at the inauguration.

Accompanying President Tinubu will be Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, along with other senior government officials.

It’s noteworthy that Mahama’s victory came after Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia conceded and congratulated him on his win. “The people of Ghana have spoken; they have voted for change, and we respect that decision with humility,” Bawumia stated upon conceding.
