The schoolchildren had endured a harrowing two-week period in the hands of bandits before being liberated and handed over to the Kaduna State Government.

Taking to his verified Facebook page, Governor Sani shared the heartwarming news, stating, “I joined our released Kuriga schoolchildren at dinner last night. They were all in high spirits and showed eagerness to return to school.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the children’s physical and psychological well-being. The children are receiving top-notch medical treatment and psychosocial counseling to help them recover from their traumatic ordeal. Once deemed fit, they will be reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Military reported that six of the recently rescued Kuriga students are currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital. Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer of 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, assured that they would be handed over to the state government upon medical clearance.

The abduction incident occurred on March 7, 2024, when bandits raided the LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna, taking the students captive. However, in a commendable operation, the military successfully rescued the students in Zamfara State.

Despite the bandits’ ransom demand of N1 billion with a deadline of March 27, the federal government clarified that no ransom was paid for the students’ release, upholding the nation’s stance against negotiating with terrorists.
