Gunmen Abduct Four University Students In Katsina
Four students from the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA), residing in the Paris Quarters area of Dutsinma, Katsina State, have been kidnapped by armed assailants…..READ MORE
A local resident, speaking anonymously, revealed that the attack took place around 2:20 AM on Sunday, March 2, when masked gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the area and took the students hostage. Security personnel responded to a distress call, but by the time they arrived, the kidnappers had already fled with their victims.
Dutsinma remains one of the local government areas in Katsina State facing persistent security threats, including banditry and cattle rustling, despite ongoing efforts by authorities to curb such incidents. As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the Katsina State Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, or any government representatives regarding the incident. However, sources suggest that security forces have launched a search operation to rescue the abducted students.
Nigeria has witnessed a rise in student abductions in recent years, underscoring the growing security crisis in the country. Similar incidents have occurred, including the 2021 Greenfield University attack in Kaduna, where 20 students and two staff members were abducted, and the 2024 Confluence University incident in Kogi State, where nine students were kidnapped.
More recently, in February 2025, four female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Benue State were also taken by kidnappers, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by insecurity in educational institutions.
