The Defence Headquarters has officially rebranded Operation Safe Haven to Operation Enduring Peace, marking what military authorities describe as a strategic pivot toward achieving lasting stability in Plateau State and neighboring regions — according to iReporter Online.

The name change, military officials explained, reflects a deeper commitment to proactive security operations, aimed not just at containing violence but fostering sustainable peace. Speaking during a troop address in Jos, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, commended the gallantry of the Armed Forces and reaffirmed full presidential backing for the mission.

“It is time to restore enduring peace. The cycle of destruction and displacement must stop,” the CDS declared. “Between now and December, we must decisively combat the menace threatening our communities.” He assured troops that their sacrifices would be acknowledged and rewarded.

According to iReporter Online, Operation Enduring Peace will adopt intelligence-driven strategies, enhanced inter-agency cooperation, and deeper community engagement. The new approach includes deploying more personnel, strengthening logistics, and improving troop welfare on the frontlines.

The Defence Headquarters described the operation as a “proactive era in security management,” urging political leaders, traditional institutions, religious organizations, and civil society groups to rally behind the vision of peace. The success of the mission, they said, depends on collective responsibility and community trust-building.

Major General E.F. Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and former commander of Operation Safe Haven, emphasized that the new strategy would transition the military from reactive to anticipatory engagement with threats. “We will not just wait for violence to occur. We will prevent it,” he stated.

Calling on all stakeholders—youth groups, religious leaders, and civil societies—Oyinlola urged a united front in consolidating peace across conflict-prone communities.

The military reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and adapting to evolving security dynamics.
