“How A Pastor Friend Once Introduced Me To Yahoo-Yahoo – Destalker Speaks”
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian comedian Destalker has opened up about his unconventional path to fame, revealing that his brief involvement in internet fraud ultimately guided him toward a career in comedy.
Speaking during an interview on the In-house Gist podcast, Destalker recounted his early struggles in Enugu, where a close friend first introduced him to online scams. Despite the opportunity, he admitted that his kindhearted nature prevented him from fully engaging in fraudulent activities. The friend who guided him at the time has since become a Christian cleric, now known as Rev. Nelson Umeh.
Destalker described long nights spent at cybercafés, where he and his friend attempted to make money online. While his friend focused on targeting victims, Destalker preferred chatting with family and old schoolmates until falling asleep, realizing that the lifestyle was not meant for him.
Reflecting on the experience, he said it provided important lessons that strengthened his confidence and resolve. Despite facing rejection and challenges within the entertainment industry, Destalker remained committed to his craft and eventually achieved success on his own terms.
He stated: “Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends who is now a pastor, but I wasn’t successful. We would book night sessions at a cyber café for N250. I couldn’t afford it then, so my friend always paid for me. However, while he scouted for victims online, I was busy chatting with my family, friends, and old schoolmates from Ughelli, and then I would fall asleep. There is no need for overspending when you are on the wrong lane. But today, it is a changed story. Because it was not my destiny. I can’t defraud a person because I am kindhearted. All that I went through has grown my confidence so that no one can stop me from achieving my goal.”
He further highlighted his resilience in comedy, explaining that even when some peers doubted him or restricted his opportunities, he persevered and built a lasting career, while some of those who initially helped him have faded from relevance.
