the 2023 general elections. Previously, Wike served as governor of Rivers State for eight years under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before his current ministerial role.

During a thanksgiving service organized by the PDP in the Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas, Wike took the opportunity to thank President Tinubu for his faith in him. He revealed that he faced threats prior to the presidential elections due to his support for Tinubu, but asserted that he would make the same choice again if given the chance. “I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity arises, I will do the same thing,” he stated.

Additionally, Wike disclosed that he played a pivotal role in the ousting of Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the PDP, alleging that Secondus intended for his cousin, Tele Ikuru, to become the next Governor of Rivers State contrary to the wishes of the populace, while not backing Siminalayi Fubara’s candidacy. Wike emphasized that Secondus’s actions led to his removal.

Wike made these comments during the PDP’s end-of-year thanksgiving event held in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. He also criticized former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia and Governor Fubara regarding recent remarks made during project commissioning in the state. In response to Secondus’s claim calling him an “enemy of the state,” Wike questioned the former chairman’s new partnership with Governor Fubara.
