According to reports, the labour union has been in dispute with IBEDC over the termination of several workers. The NLC had claimed that over 3,000 employees were dismissed and demanded their reinstatement with improved benefits.

However, IBEDC has clarified that the affected workers were not direct employees of the company but were instead outsourced personnel from Premier International Procurements & Logistics Limited (PIPLL), a third-party human resource firm. In an official statement issued on Friday, IBEDC reaffirmed the number and status of the disengaged workers and criticized the repeated calls for picketing by the NLC.

The statement emphasized that the claim of dismissing over 3,000 employees was entirely false and misleading. IBEDC reiterated that it was not responsible for the termination or reinstatement of these outsourced staff, as they were under the employment of PIPLL. The company also condemned what it described as attempts to associate IBEDC with the issue, stressing that such reports misrepresented facts and could mislead the public and key stakeholders.

IBEDC urged the NLC, media, and general public to acknowledge that the disengaged workers were never part of its workforce. The company further stated that PIPLL, as the direct employer, bears full responsibility for its employees and is expected to provide necessary clarifications and resolutions.

Additionally, IBEDC warned that its ongoing business relationship with PIPLL was at risk due to what it described as the firm’s unprofessional handling of the situation. The company also strongly opposed the labour union’s continued calls for picketing, stating that such actions disrupt operations and hinder the provision of essential electricity services crucial for economic growth.

IBEDC confirmed that PIPLL has initiated engagements with all relevant parties, including the affected personnel, the Ministry of Labour, and the NLC, to address the matter. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ethical labor practices, corporate responsibility, and service excellence while remaining focused on delivering reliable electricity to its customers.
