Katsina Community Leader Celebrates One Year Without Bandit Attacks
Residents of Batsari Local Government Area in Katsina State have praised security forces for their efforts in addressing the security challenges in the region. Several community members, speaking to the press on Friday, acknowledged that the security situation, which had previously been a major concern, has significantly improved in recent months……READ MORE
A community leader from Wagini village, Yahuza Aminu, recounted the frequent bandit attacks that plagued the area, resulting in numerous deaths, abductions, and livestock theft. “There was a time when no one in our community could sleep soundly, fearing that bandits would strike at any moment,” Aminu shared. He highlighted a particularly harrowing period when about 50 people were abducted. Many residents fled to neighboring villages for safety during these dark times.
However, Aminu noted that the security situation has improved recently, with no reports of abductions, killings, or animal rustling for the past year. “We haven’t heard gunshots from bandits in over a year, and our markets now operate normally,” he said. While he acknowledged that occasional attacks still occur in the eastern part of the community, the overall security situation has drastically improved compared to previous years.
This improvement in security has also boosted local agriculture, with farmers who had once been unable to work due to insecurity now able to plant and harvest their crops. Aminu reported that many farmers have earned substantial income from selling their produce.
The positive impact is also evident in the local markets, where traders like Jamilu Sani, the chairman of the shoe sellers’ association, expressed relief. “We used to hear about attacks nearly every week, but now we can buy and sell without fear. We are grateful to the security forces and the government for this change,” Sani said.
