In a statement issued in Abuja, LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, described Okupe as a remarkable figure who made significant contributions to Nigerian politics.
Abure highlighted Okupe’s role in the party, noting that he initially served as a placeholder for the vice-presidential ticket before stepping down in favor of zoning arrangements. Before joining LP in 2022, Okupe had held key political positions, including serving as the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention. His involvement in LP’s 2023 presidential campaign demonstrated his leadership and statesmanship.
Despite resigning from the party in 2024 on principle, Okupe remained connected to LP and continued to offer valuable advice. Abure praised Okupe’s dedication to the party and Nigeria’s progress, lamenting that his passing had cut short his contributions to the nation.
LP acknowledged that Okupe’s political wisdom, integrity, and passion for a better Nigeria would be greatly missed.
