According to Ireporter Online, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has refuted allegations that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was denied access to food, family members, and medical care while in its custody.

The Commission’s spokesperson, Okor Odey, dismissed the claims during a press briefing on Monday, describing them as false and misleading. He explained that the ICPC maintains a structured visitation policy, allowing approved visitors into its detention facilities between 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Odey clarified that El-Rufai’s wife arrived outside the permitted visiting hours, but noted that on the said Friday, one of his wives alongside a housemaid was allowed to deliver food to him on multiple occasions between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

He further stated that access to detainees is granted to authorised individuals, including family members, legal representatives, and medical personnel, but strictly under supervision in line with standard procedures.

Addressing claims that El-Rufai was denied access to his doctors, Odey maintained that no such restriction occurred, explaining that officials only requested proper identification before allowing supervised entry. He added that El-Rufai had, in the week preceding the incident, been granted permission to consult both his dentist and eye specialist, with ICPC officials accompanying him on both visits.

The Commission stressed that it would not be drawn into what it described as “dramatised narratives” aimed at undermining lawful institutional processes. El-Rufai has remained in ICPC custody since February 19 over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State.
