Impeachment Suit: Obaseki Makes Fresh Revelation On Shaibu

Obaseki addressed this matter for the first time since Shaibu filed a lawsuit to halt alleged efforts by the governor to remove him from office due to their unresolved disagreements.

“The Edo election doesn’t have a fixed schedule yet; it will take place later in the year. Therefore, I believe this action by him is a preemptive move to secure a court order that lets him retain his position while he moves to another party to obtain their nomination,” Obaseki commented.

Obaseki further stated, “I think it’s unjust to our party and unfair to the state that we’re facing this kind of crisis. Moreover, our state’s local and international representation is being negatively impacted. I’ve been receiving calls from all over the world.”

“It’s disheartening that someone who has been part of the administration would take such actions against the administration just due to his personal ambition,” Obaseki added.

Last Friday, Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted a temporary order as part of a motion on notice filed by Shaibu, seeking to halt any moves by his governor to remove him from office. The court directed the parties involved to maintain the current situation.

This status quo order will remain in effect until the defendants provide reasons, as directed in a previous ruling made on July 27th, 2023. The court also postponed the hearing to August 10 and mandated that the IGP, SSS, and Obaseki, who were not represented in court, be served with hearing notices.
