“K!ll!ngs, Abductions, Displacement: Kwara Farmers Beg For Urgent Action”

According to Ireporter Online, the Chief Executive of Versa Farms, Nigeria’s largest tomato farm, Ibrahim Toyeeb, has sounded the alarm over escalating attacks in Kwara State, warning that the violence could devastate the economy of Kwara South.

Toyeeb, whose farm provides jobs for hundreds, described the killings, injuries, abductions, and displacement of residents as “deeply painful,” stressing that urgent intervention is required to safeguard lives and livelihoods. He cautioned that without decisive action, Kwara South could face an economic collapse as investors withdraw, businesses fold, and families are left in ruin.

The farmer expressed dissatisfaction with the silence of key political figures, particularly Senator Oyelola Ashiru, representing Kwara South, and Raheem Tunji Olawuyi, chairman of the House Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. He argued that failure to raise the issue boldly in the National Assembly amounted to abandonment of the people.

Toyeeb outlined a set of urgent measures he believes could help stem the crisis, including targeted security deployments, identification of vulnerable communities, creation of a joint federal-state security task force, humanitarian relief for displaced persons, transparent investigations, and the release of a clear action plan.

He further urged the Kwara State Government and security agencies to sustain newly announced security strategies, prioritizing intelligence-led operations while ensuring that military deployments are combined with community engagement and direct support for victims.

Beyond the human tragedy, Toyeeb emphasized the looming economic disaster, warning that insecurity is crippling investment opportunities in the region. He noted that the closure of farms and withdrawal of businesses would deepen poverty and push the area into economic paralysis.

Pointing to Versa Farms as a symbol of Kwara South’s potential, Toyeeb said the region could thrive if security and stability are guaranteed. “We are proof of what is possible when safety is assured. My call is not just to protect farms, but to secure futures,” he declared.
