decision to omit him from the matchday lineup.
In a pre-match interview ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, December 19, Amorim acknowledged Garnacho’s frustration, admitting that the player had every right to feel upset. “He seems a little bit upset with me, and that’s perfectly fine. I would have felt the same way as a player,” said Amorim, emphasizing that Garnacho’s reaction reflects his passion and determination.
Despite the setback, Amorim assured that Garnacho’s commitment to the team remains strong, adding, “He’s doing really well; his training sessions have been impressive.” The coach indicated that Garnacho is eager to play a crucial role in the upcoming match and is ready to contribute when called upon.
In a more somber update, Amorim also discussed Mason Mount’s latest injury setback. The England midfielder, who was forced off early during the Manchester City game, is now facing another extended period on the sidelines. “He’s out, still injured, and frankly, he’s very sad about the situation,” said Amorim, noting that Mount’s emotional state had been affected by the recurring injuries.
The coach highlighted the emotional toll such injuries can take on players, especially given the demanding nature of the season. “In the dressing room, he was really down, so it’s important for the team to rally around him and offer the support he needs during this difficult time,” Amorim stated.
With the team battling injuries and pressure mounting, Amorim’s focus is now on supporting his players through these challenging moments as they prepare for the intense matches ahead.
