‘I’ve Had Enough!’ – Iduoriyekemwen Walks Out on PDP, Reveals Hidden Triggers
Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director General of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Council for the 2024 Edo governorship election, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a decline in the party’s core values and internal coherence.
In a resignation letter titled “Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party”, dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Iduoriyekemwen expressed deep regret over his decision, noting it was reached after much reflection and personal deliberation. According to iReporter Online, the letter was made public in Benin and outlined his reasons for severing ties with the party.
“I am writing to formally resign my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, Ward 5, Ikpoba-Okha LGA,” the former Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly stated. “This is a painstaking decision for me, as the PDP has played a vital role in my political journey and personal development. For this, I remain deeply grateful.”
However, according to iReporter Online, Iduoriyekemwen lamented that recent developments at both the state and national levels of the party have become inconsistent with the founding ideals. He noted that the values and principles on which the PDP was built—such as inclusivity, democracy, and integrity—have largely eroded.
In his words, “What we see today no longer aligns with the vision of a truly democratic and people-centred political party. This decision is not made out of anger or haste, but is borne out of a sincere desire to preserve my personal values and integrity.”
According to iReporter Online, the ex-lawmaker also made it clear that his future focus will be on family and business, extending his gratitude to the leadership and members of his ward for their unwavering support over the years. He wished the PDP success in its future endeavours.
