The camps of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi have explained why their respective presidential campaign councils are yet to be announced ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, both camps said consultations are still ongoing regarding the composition, leadership and timetable of their campaign structures.

The development comes shortly after the All Progressives Congress (APC) unveiled key members of its 2027 presidential campaign council, with President Bola Tinubu appointing former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as Secretary.

Speaking on Atiku’s behalf, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, urged supporters and Nigerians to exercise patience, saying the details of the campaign council and the formal commencement of the campaign would be announced at the appropriate time.

Shaibu explained that consultations were still in progress and that the former vice president would not rush to release names or other details before the necessary decisions had been reached.

He said the campaign would also unveil its fundraising framework at the appropriate time, stressing that the model adopted would be transparent, accountable and compliant with relevant campaign-finance laws.

According to him, Atiku is currently focused on engaging Nigerians on issues affecting their lives while presenting his policy alternatives ahead of the election.

Meanwhile, the NDC has also confirmed that consultations are ongoing over the structure and timetable of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed that the group would hold another meeting the following weekend before deciding on the date and other details of the campaign.

Director indicated that prominent figures, including Professor Pat Utomi, Buba Galadima and Bishop Idahosa, could feature in the campaign structure.

He also disclosed that Obi’s campaign would cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the possibility of visiting some states more than once.

The party official said decisions on the campaign council, launch date and campaign route would be made after the upcoming meeting before being officially communicated to the public.

The delay in unveiling the campaign structures of both opposition candidates contrasts with the APC’s recent move to announce key officials of its presidential campaign council as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 election.
