I’ve Officially Moved Into New Government House – Governor Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has officially moved into the newly completed Anambra Government House, a sprawling complex now hailed as one of the most advanced state government facilities in Nigeria.

The modern structure, codenamed “Light House Awka,” comprises over 36 buildings, including the Governor’s Lodge, Deputy Governor’s Lodge, administrative blocks, and staff quarters. The facility was recently commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and has since drawn comparisons to the nation’s seat of power, Aso Rock.

Former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, described the new government house as a “mini-city,” underscoring its architectural significance and administrative utility.

Governor Soludo made the announcement while addressing party faithful at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) rally for Anambra Central Senatorial Zone on Saturday, where he was endorsed for a second term.

“Let me announce to you that I have officially moved into the Anambra Light House City. I moved there officially yesterday [Friday]. I slept there last night, woke up this morning, and simply strolled to this venue at Alex Ekwueme Square,” the governor told cheering supporters.

For over three decades, the Anambra State Government operated from a makeshift facility, with successive administrations—under Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Dr. Chris Ngige, Mr. Peter Obi, and Chief Willie Obiano—failing to complete the long-abandoned project.

Soludo, who assumed office in 2022, revived the stalled infrastructure and completed it within his first term, marking what many observers call one of his signature achievements.

“This project has lingered for more than 20 years. Anambra was the only state where the government house was in one town while the governor resided in another,” Soludo said, referring to the previous arrangement where the administrative offices were located in Awka, while the Governor’s residence was in Amawbia.

The Governor emphasized that consolidating the administrative and residential wings of the state government was not only about convenience but also about fostering greater efficiency, coordination, and state pride.

The commissioning of the Light House Awka comes as Soludo prepares to seek a second term in office, buoyed by infrastructural milestones and ongoing reforms in education, security, and governance.

The APGA rally, held at the bustling Alex Ekwueme Square, was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, party stalwarts, and thousands of enthusiastic supporters, many of whom described the new government house as “a legacy for generations.”
