In a statement released on Friday by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan remembered Okupe as a dedicated and courageous public servant who significantly contributed to Nigeria’s growth and development. Jonathan extended his heartfelt condolences to Okupe’s family, friends, and associates, noting his loyalty and passion for the country’s progress. He further emphasized that Okupe’s steadfast commitment to good governance and his advocacy for national development would always be remembered.

The Ooni of Ife also mourned the loss, describing it as a shocking and profound event for Nigeria. In a statement issued by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the Ooni acknowledged Okupe as an intellectual and patriot with remarkable contributions to national progress. The monarch highlighted Okupe’s significant role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and promoting democracy and good governance.
