JUST IN: Bayelsa Govt Imposes Curfew (DETAILS)

In response to an ongoing crisis within the community, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has enacted a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Opu-Nembe.

The decision was made during a confidential session involving members of the state’s Security Council. Additionally, the governor has dissolved both the youth and chieftaincy councils in Opu-Nembe.

Before the private security meeting commenced, the governor addressed the media and highlighted the diligent efforts his administration has undertaken to uphold peace in Bayelsa State over the span of his three-year tenure.

Following the meeting’s conclusion, Akpoebi Agberebi, the Special Adviser to the governor on Security, briefed journalists on the resolutions that were reached.

Notably, the security council has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to withdraw the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team that had been dispatched to Opu-Nembe. Instead, they recommended that the joint security forces within the state be entrusted with the responsibility of resolving the crisis.
