JUST IN: Buhari Meets Emefiele After Supreme Court Adjournment

President Muhammadu Buhari met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, just hours after the Supreme Court postponed until February 22 the suit filed by state governments challenging the apex bank’s naira redesign policy.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed to Channels Television that the CBN governor was expected to meet with the President and that he did so after the Federal Executive Council meeting today.

After the Nigeria Governors’ Forum urged him to allow all old notes to circulate in the system to alleviate hardship on ordinary Nigerians, the President issued an 11-day appeal to Nigerians to give him seven days to resolve the cash crisis.

On rumours making the rounds that the President may be mulling an extension of the validity of the old naira notes by 60 days, the presidential spokesman said he is not in a position to confirm or deny the narrative.
