On Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt overturned the nomination of four Labour Party House of Assembly candidates in Rivers State.

In his decision, the presiding Judge, Justice Turaki Mohammed, agreed with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the Labour Party violated the Electoral Act while conducting four primary elections for the State House of Assembly.

Justice Mohammed also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,A to remove the names of the affected Labour Party candidates from the ballot boxes in Obio/Akpor 1 and 2, Tai, and Gokana State.

The judge, however, disagreed with the PDP that the Labour Party primary elections that produced candidates for Ahoada East and West were not monitored by INEC.

Meanwhile, Uche Olewunne, counsel to the Labour Party candidates, has vowed that his clients will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal.
