In Kano State, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has declared that the recently concluded gubernatorial election won by New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate Abba Kabir Yusuf was faulty and thus cannot stand.

During a press conference yesterday, APC legal adviser Abdul Fagge stated that there was no way the election could be declared conclusive with over 270,000 votes cancelled, indicating that it is larger than the winning votes.

He said, “Based on section 65 of the Electoral Laws 2022, we have written to INEC to revisit and cancel the hasty, wrong and selfish declaration of the NNPP as winner of the elections, and declare the election inconclusive.”

He stated that they have since written to INEC requesting that the elections be reviewed and declared inconclusive within seven days based on the provisions of the electoral law.

The legal adviser, who was backed by the APC gubernatorial candidate, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, and other top party members, claimed that the INEC returning officer did not rely on legal provisions.

Fagge warned that if INEC could declare elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states as inconclusive due to violence and overvoting, why not Kano?

At the briefing, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, said his election was similar to what happened in Kano during the gubernatorial election, but it was declared inconclusive.

Doguwa stated that 12 of the 13 polling units were cancelled due to violence and one due to over voting, and he has accepted his faith while waiting for the elections to be rerun.
