Just In: LP Questions Okupe’s Political Allegiance: Accuses Him Of Party-Hopping Harlotry
The Labour Party (LP) has asserted that Dr. Doyin Okupe, former Director General of its Presidential Campaign Council, is driven solely by personal benefits, branding him a political opportunist…..CONTINUE READING
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, expressed that while they typically would not dignify such actions with a response, they felt compelled to address the matter due to the media attention it has garnered.
Ifoh emphasized that responding would have been unnecessary had Okupe not attempted to tarnish the party’s image upon his departure.
Accusing Okupe of political harlotry for frequently switching parties, Ifoh highlighted the alleged ideological conflict cited by Okupe as the reason for leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and referred to the Labour Party pejoratively as a “Special Purpose Vehicle” in the letter addressed to the LP’s National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure.
The LP spokesperson questioned Okupe’s political motives, considering the clear ideological differences between Okupe’s rightist and Liberal Democrat affiliations and the left-of-center ideology of the Labour Party.
Ifoh criticized Okupe’s ease in transitioning between political parties and accused him of lacking commitment to any particular ideology.
Asserting that the LP is an ideological party grounded in principles of equal opportunity and social justice, Ifoh maintained that such a party is not suitable for political opportunists like Okupe.
He suggested that Okupe’s departure was not surprising, citing his history of moving between parties, including the PDP and APC.
