Just In: Tinubu’s Return Imminent – Official Statement Sparks Reactions Nationwide
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has confirmed that the President will return to Nigeria today, Monday, April 21.
Onanuga made the announcement via his official (formerly Twitter) account on Monday morning.
This comes amid growing public calls for Tinubu’s return due to the escalating security challenges across parts of the country. Responding to these concerns last Thursday, April 17, Onanuga had assured Nigerians that the President’s absence was temporary and aligned with the earlier stated plan for a two-week working visit.
He emphasized that despite being away, President Tinubu has remained actively engaged in governance — maintaining close communication with top government officials and issuing strategic directives, particularly to security agencies, to address emerging threats.
Onanuga further clarified that the President’s return and resumption of official duties at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa would take place following the Easter holiday.
Tinubu had departed Nigeria on Wednesday, April 2, for a two-week working trip to Paris, France. At the time, Onanuga stated that the purpose of the visit was to conduct a mid-term performance review of his administration and evaluate key achievements.
The presidency has also dismissed rumours suggesting that the President travelled to France for medical reasons.
