Kano Government Intervenes To Resolve Emirate Dispute
The Kano State Government has assured that the longstanding Emirate dispute in the state will soon be resolved through peaceful means. According to government officials, steps have been taken to restore stability and harmony across Kano.
The issue arose following the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano in May 2024, after the removal of Aminu Ado Bayero by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The governor’s decision came shortly after signing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Bill 2024, which replaced the 2019 Emirate Council Law and dissolved the additional emirate councils established under the previous administration.
Ibrahim Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, stated that the government is engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure the dispute does not escalate or disrupt governance. He emphasized that the administration’s approach is guided by respect for the law, traditional institutions, and the welfare of Kano residents.
On the recent political shift of Governor Yusuf joining the All Progressives Congress, Waiya expressed optimism that the move would yield positive results for the state. He highlighted that enhanced cooperation with the Federal Government could bring increased support and projects in key sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare.
