The Supreme Court, on January 12, overturned the appellate court’s judgment that had initially ousted Yusuf from office.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, it was emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision was delivered with “equity and fairness.” Bature dismissed the misconceptions circulating on social media and urged the public to disregard the unfounded allegations propagated by “enemies of progress.”
The statement clarified, “Governor Yusuf did not enter any agreement or condition with anybody before the Supreme Court judgment.” Bature expressed gratitude for the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment, highlighting the justices’ commitment to justice and fairness while safeguarding the integrity of the judiciary.
Addressing the alleged agreement with the presidency, Bature stated, “Let me state emphatically that Governor Yusuf has no prior agreement with the president.” He commended the president for maintaining neutrality, peace, and stability in Kano, asserting that the president’s refusal to bow to certain party members’ wishes contributed to an enduring atmosphere in the state.
Bature concluded by emphasizing that discussions between Governor Yusuf and the president during various visits centered around the development of Kano State. The governor’s denial aims to dispel any doubts regarding the legitimacy of his reinstatement and maintain transparency in the political landscape.
