Kano Govt to Journalists: Speak Freely, We’ve Got Your Back!
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to press freedom and meaningful engagement with the media as a cornerstone for strengthening democratic values in the state.
The assurance was given by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during a courtesy visit by the new leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Correspondents’ Chapel.
He noted that the media remains a vital pillar in nation-building and democratic consolidation, according to iReporter Online.
Mr. Bature emphasized that the Yusuf-led government greatly values the role of journalists in promoting transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership.
He commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for helping bridge the communication gap between the government and the public, stating that Governor Yusuf remains open to constructive criticism that drives good governance.
He further assured the media of the administration’s commitment to deepening access to information for all duly accredited journalists, urging for mutual respect and professionalism in the discharge of media duties.
In his address, the new Chairman of the Chapel, Murtala Adewale, appreciated the state government for its consistent collaboration with the media and pledged the commitment of his leadership to uphold ethical journalism and factual reporting.
He also called for enhanced synergy between the press and government to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information.
According to iReporter Online, the meeting created an opportunity for robust dialogue on how to improve government-media relations, enhance journalistic capacity, and ensure free access to reliable, official information within Kano State.
