Tinubu To World Powers: ‘Stop Cheating Africa On Energy Prices!’
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized the urgent need for Africa to take full ownership of its energy resources by establishing credible and transparent pricing mechanisms that reflect the continent’s economic realities and shield its markets from exploitation
Speaking in anticipation of the upcoming Global Commodity Insights Conference on West African Refined Fuel Markets in Abuja, Tinubu reiterated that Nigeria is committed to partnering with other African nations to develop an integrated, Africa-led energy market that delivers lasting value for the region.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the high-level conference—organized by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority in collaboration with S&P Global Insights—will convene top energy stakeholders, regulators, and global investors to deliberate on pricing reforms, regulatory frameworks, and market expansion across the continent.
“Africa must stop being a mere price taker of its natural resources,” Tinubu stated on his verified X handle. “We need credible benchmarks that represent our economic realities and protect our future.”
He added that Africa’s energy sovereignty can only be achieved by controlling the full value chain. “We must price what we produce, trade on our terms, and build prosperity for future generations. This is how we take control of our energy destiny,” the president affirmed.
The two-day forum is expected to drive forward a continental blueprint for energy independence and investment-led growth.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the initiative aligns with Tinubu’s broader agenda to position Africa as a global force in the energy sector through strategic collaboration and regulatory harmonization.
