Kano-Residents Urge Enhanced Security After Emirship-Battle (Details)

Residents of Gwale, Dala, and Municipal Local Government Areas in Kano State have called on the State Police Command to intensify security measures across the city due to the rising threat posed by thugs amidst the ongoing emirship dispute.

Expressing their fears and frustrations, residents urged Governor Abba Yusuf to establish a robust and comprehensive security network to address the increasing violence. Alhaji Abubakar Mohammad from Gwale LGA recounted a personal incident where his wife was robbed by thugs, highlighting the urgent need for increased police presence. He appealed to the Commissioner of Police for more security personnel to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Malam Abdulmuni Shehu from Dala LGA and Hajiya Aishatu Abu from Dan Agundi area echoed similar concerns, calling for heightened security measures to alleviate the tense situation in the metropolis. Dr. Sani Zulyadain from Sagagi area in Kano Municipal LGA urged the state government to take drastic measures to eliminate the activities of the thugs terrorizing innocent residents. Malam Ishaku Ibrahim, also from Sagagi, appealed to Governor Yusuf to intervene in the ongoing attacks by hoodlums.

The residents are advocating for increased security measures, including foot patrols and the deployment of plain-clothes operatives, to apprehend the criminals and restore peace to the community. They emphasized that the activities of these criminal-minded youths posed a significant threat to the peace Kano had enjoyed before the emirship tussle began.

Reacting to these concerns, the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, assured residents that the command was actively addressing the situation. “We have mapped out security measures to apprehend those involved,” Gumel stated, appealing to law-abiding residents to provide timely and credible information about the movement of hoodlums.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Information, Malam Baba Danteye, confirmed that the state government and security agencies were working together effectively to bring those responsible for the nefarious acts to justice. He assured, “The Kano State Government is fully committed to supporting the Police and other state security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.”

Danteye urged residents to report any suspicious activities or characters to the nearest security office to enable prompt action. “Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone,” he concluded.

The collective call from the residents and the response from the authorities underscore the urgent need for enhanced security measures to restore peace and safety in Kano amidst the ongoing emirship dispute.
