Kwara Government Sets Standard For WAEC Registration Fees For 2024/2025 Exams

The Kwara State Government has announced the registration fee for students taking the 2024/2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams. The fee has been set at ₦30,250 per candidate for final-year senior secondary school students in public schools across the state. Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the state’s Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, explained that the fee consists of ₦27,000 for WAEC charges and an additional ₦3,250 for e-registration and administrative expenses.

Modibbo-Kawu made the announcement on Wednesday while addressing school principals during the registration kick-off event at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School in Ilorin. This event marked the beginning of the registration process for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

A statement released by Peter Amogbonjaye, the Press Secretary in the Ministry of Education, emphasized that principals have been cautioned against extortion during the registration process. Those found guilty will face consequences, as the Ministry will not tolerate any additional charges beyond those approved by the Ministry.

Modibbo-Kawu also called on the principals to continue playing an active role in shaping the future of the state, highlighting their importance in fostering future leaders. She expressed her appreciation for their dedication and collaboration with the Ministry in enhancing the quality of education in Kwara.

Additionally, the Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, praised the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for its significant contributions to improving the state’s education sector, particularly in improving teachers’ welfare.

Mrs. Olanrewaju Bake, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, also commended the Governor for his ongoing efforts to improve education and urged teachers to continue excelling in their roles.

In the breakdown of the registration fees, the WAEC charges total ₦27,000, with an additional ₦1,250 for e-registration and ₦2,000 for administrative costs, bringing the total fee to ₦30,250.

Mohammad Baba, President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Kwara State Chapter, also expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his dedication to improving the welfare of teachers and the education system, promising that educators would honor their responsibilities diligently.
