Labour Party Under Fire: Otti Declares Abure the Chief Architect of Party’s Downfall!”
Abia Governor Otti Accuses LP Chairman Abure of Sabotaging Party Ideals
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has accused Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), of being at the center of the party’s ongoing internal crisis.
Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Wednesday, Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, alleged that Abure had abandoned the core values of the party in pursuit of selfish interests.
Ekeoma was responding to earlier threats by Abure, who had vowed to expose both Governor Otti and the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, warning that they would be left “smelling like bad eggs.”
But Ekeoma fired back, insisting that it is Abure who has compromised the party’s credibility.
“Mr. Abure is the one tearing the Labour Party apart. He has turned his back on the party’s progressive vision and, in doing so, betrayed the trust of Nigerians,” Ekeoma said. “At the appropriate time, we will present evidence that he sold out the party for personal gain.”
He went on to criticize Abure’s leadership, particularly the party’s lack of structure before Otti and others joined.
“Before Governor Otti came on board, the Labour Party didn’t even have a functional office in Abia. Yet Abure acted like the party had a strong national presence,” he noted.
Ekeoma also addressed allegations of bribery, clarifying that while the LP leadership, including Abure, received financial and logistical support during the 2023 elections, it was not in the form of bribes.
“It wasn’t bribery, it was support — and there’s nothing wrong with assisting the party leadership during elections. But let’s be honest, there were compromises everywhere,” he said.
Responding to Abure’s dare for evidence, Ekeoma dismissed it as bluster.
“If he truly had the party’s best interest at heart, he wouldn’t be making empty boasts. We’re not fooled — he’s not dealing with amateurs,” Ekeoma concluded.
