Lagos Enforces E-Call-Up System for Trucks June 16 Amid Rising Congestion

Starting Monday, June 16, the Lagos State Government will begin enforcing an electronic call-up (e-call-up) system to manage the growing number of articulated trucks operating along the Lekki-Epe corridor. This development was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, via a statement issued by the Ministry’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Bolanle Ogunlola.

The e-call-up system is being introduced in response to severe traffic congestion caused by industrial activities in the area, which hosts major infrastructure like the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and vital oil and gas installations. The Lekki-Epe axis has only one major exit route, making it a critical traffic bottleneck.

Currently, about 360 to 400 trucks operate on the corridor daily, but with the Dangote Refinery set to commence full-scale operations, daily truck volume could surge to between 3,000 and 4,000. Osiyemi stressed the urgency of deploying proactive traffic management strategies to avoid total gridlock.

Under the new system, truck operators will be required to register online and upload their Authority to Load (ATL) documentation for verification. Only those cleared will be allowed to enter designated parks, where they will wait for an electronic call-up before heading to loading sites.

This measure aims to eliminate indiscriminate parking, streamline truck movement, and safeguard road infrastructure in the rapidly expanding corridor. Osiyemi described the initiative as a significant step toward modernizing Lagos’ logistics and transportation network.

He urged all stakeholders, especially truck operators and logistics firms, to comply voluntarily and work collectively to ease traffic challenges and ensure safer, more efficient road use in the area.
