LASTMA Officials Sacked Over Corruption
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has relieved five of its personnel of their duties following allegations of corruption. Two others who faced a disciplinary panel were reprimanded for not being present at their duty posts. This action comes within two weeks after 11 other personnel were brought before a disciplinary panel for similar allegations.
In a statement by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, it was disclosed that the terminated officials received letters ending their service in the state civil service.
Taofiq mentioned that the cases involving 14 others are still under administrative review by the LASTMA Management team.

The termination letters for the five officers were issued on Friday, December 8, 2023. He further explained that all recommendations made by the Personnel Management Board regarding the seven indicted LASTMA officials were ratified by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission following a meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023.
“While Five Lastma Officials indicted for corruptions received letter of Termination of appointment’, two others were ‘reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave,” he explained.
Taofiq added that Mr. Bakara Oki Olalekan, the Acting General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized the need for the Authority’s staff to remain vigilant. He reiterated that disciplinary measures would be taken against any staff member found guilty, following the established rules outlined in the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
The Acting General Manager emphasized the agency’s commitment to improvement and encouraged the public to share their experiences with the management, both positive and negative. He urged road users to adhere to the State Traffic Law to avoid violating regulations, which would result in penalties as stipulated by the law.
“This is necessary for all of us to promote a Greater Lagos for the benefit of all and for the realization of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation)”.
