Man United Land Top Target Bryan Mbeumo in Shock £65M Transfer Coup

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a major move that signals the club’s intent to rebuild ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 25-year-old winger, who was born in France, signed a contract until 2030 with an option for an additional year.

Mbeumo revealed in a statement that joining Manchester United was the fulfilment of a childhood dream, stating he grew up wearing the club’s shirt. He described the move as an opportunity he could not pass up, noting the stature of the club, its iconic stadium, and the passion of its global fan base.

The transfer is reported to be valued at £65 million, with an additional £6 million in performance-related add-ons. The deal marks a significant victory for United, who beat out interest from Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by Mbeumo’s former boss at Brentford, Thomas Frank.

United head coach Ruben Amorim, keen to revitalize the squad after a disappointing previous campaign, has already welcomed two other additions this summer: Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon. The club is aiming to bounce back after finishing 15th in the Premier League and suffering a defeat to Spurs in the Europa League final.

Mbeumo, known for his versatility and explosive pace, enjoyed a stellar season with Brentford, scoring 20 league goals and playing a pivotal role in the club’s 10th-place finish. Since joining the Bees from French side Troyes in 2019, he made 242 appearances, registering 70 goals and 51 assists.

Speaking on the move, Brentford’s director of football expressed pride in Mbeumo’s progression and said the timing was right for the player to make the leap to one of the world’s top clubs.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised the acquisition as a key part of the club’s recruitment strategy, describing Mbeumo as one of their “primary targets.” The club is optimistic that the winger will quickly integrate with the team during the upcoming pre-season tour in the United States.

Meanwhile, changes continue at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford set to leave the club for Barcelona. A formal announcement is expected soon. Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are also reportedly on the exit list and may not travel for the pre-season tour.

Manchester United’s U.S. pre-season campaign kicks off against West Ham, with their Premier League opener scheduled against Arsenal on August 17.
