Many Killed As Boko Haram, ISWAP Clash In Borno

A confrontation in Borno State resulted in the loss of lives for a total of 41 terrorists, including commanders, as clashes occurred between the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (Boko Haram) and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP).

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst specializing in counter-insurgency and based in the Lake Chad region, reported this development on Thursday. The clashes erupted on Wednesday within the North East region of Borno State.

Makama’s information revealed that ISWAP militants, arriving in multiple canoes, launched an attack against the Bakoura Buduma-led faction of Boko Haram in the Duguri area of Kukawa Local Government Area (LGA).

According to reliable sources familiar with the clash, Makama indicated that the fierce confrontation resulted in the deaths of 41 fighters from both sides, including several high-ranking commanders.

He emphasized that ISWAP significantly weakened the Boko Haram faction, inflicting substantial casualties among their leadership.

Makama specified that among the commanders who perished in the violent encounter were individuals such as Modu Kayi, Abbah Musa, Isa Muhammed, Ibrahim Ali, Kanai Zakariya, and Bula Salam. Others who met the same fate included Isuhu Alhaji Umaru, Dogo Salman, and Abdulrahman Malam Musa, among additional casualties.

Instances of clashes between Boko Haram and ISWAP have grown more frequent and intense, particularly in locations like Borno state’s Sambisa forest and the Lake Chad region.

Makama additionally noted that ISWAP had gained the upper hand, partly attributed to the defection of Abou Idris, a former chief of operations for Boko Haram. Idris had switched allegiance to ISWAP, joining them to combat his previous associates within Boko Haram.
