Massive Crackdown: Delta Police Nab Arms Dealer Supplying Weapons To Bandits In The North

According to Ireporter Online, the Delta State Police Command has achieved another major success in its intensified campaign against the trafficking of illegal arms and ammunition.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that officers acting on credible intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, arrested a female suspect, identified as Jamila Abubakar, at the Conoil Filling Station along Warri–Patani Road, Effurun.

The operation, led by ASP Julius Robinson of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), uncovered a cash sum of ₦550,000 concealed beneath the suspect’s bag, believed to be proceeds from illicit transactions.

Edafe explained that Abubakar’s arrest provided a vital lead that enabled the police to track down another suspect, Ahmed Ibrahim, a 31-year-old man from Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area, at the Niger-Cat area of Warri. The operation, conducted around 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025, led to the recovery of a bag containing 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG live ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that Ibrahim is a key supplier of arms to several bandit groups operating in the northern part of the country. He had allegedly been on the Command’s watchlist for his role in high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery operations.

Further intelligence also linked the suspect to the abduction and murder of one Ogheneovo Onemu, a female victim kidnapped on May 17, 2024, in Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, who was later killed despite a ransom payment of ₦4 million.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, hailed the development as another milestone in the Command’s relentless pursuit of criminal networks involved in illegal arms trade. He reiterated the Command’s determination to eliminate syndicates facilitating the circulation of weapons and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the State.

The CP urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with the Police by providing credible information to aid ongoing operations. He assured the public that the Command would sustain its proactive approach in combating crime and maintaining peace in Delta State.
