Moses Omo-Ikirodah Hails Southern Governors Demands, Calls For Review Of 5 % Oil Revenue Proposal To Host Communities

Engineer Moses Omo-Ikirodah has commended the Southern Governors over its stance on the current situation in the country.

The Southern Governors at a meeting held in Lagos reviewed the security situation, constitutional amendment, Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and the issue of rotational presidency amongst other national issues of importance.

Also, the Southern governors rejected the proposed 3% by the Senate and instead endorsed the 5% share of the oil revenue to the host communities as recommended by the House of Representatives while rejecting the 30% share of profit for the exploration of oil and gas in the basins.

Moses Omo-Ikirodah made the commendation while receiving some host communities from the Niger Delta region at his residence in Abuja. He applauded the decision to zone the Presidency to the South but however kicked against the proposal by the Southern Governors on the 5 % share of the oil revenue to host communities.

“If we must follow the principles of equity, Justice and fairness then it is time for the Southern region to produce the next president come 2023, this is one of the ways in which justice would be served.

However, on the issue of the proposed 5% for host communities, I strongly disagree and urge our Governors to reconsider their stance for an upward review to 10 % as canvassed by representatives from the Niger Delta.”

Moses, therefore, requested that the Southern Governors review their demands to ensure that the oil-bearing communities must now receive not less than 10 per cent of operating cost.
