The proposed changes will be reviewed by an advisory panel before being approved by NERC.

The new GCRP consists of 19 members, including 15 core panel members and 4 secretariat staff. Members were selected from a range of sectors, including generation companies, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), distribution companies, and eligible customers.

At the inauguration ceremony, Chidi Ike, NERC Commissioner for Engineering Performance and Monitoring, highlighted the importance of the new panel, especially given that the last panel was formed in 2018. He emphasized the need for an updated grid code in light of significant developments in the operation of the national electricity grid.

Sanusi Garba, NERC Chairman, urged the panel members to remain dedicated to their national duty, underscoring the significance of their work in ensuring that the grid code remains aligned with the sector’s needs.

The panel’s chairperson, Nafisat Ali, assured that the members would collaborate to fulfill their mandate effectively.
