New Chapter for Benue: Governor Alia Submits Names for Sweeping Cabinet Overhaul

In a strategic move to reconstitute his cabinet, the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has forwarded a list of eight commissioner-nominees to the Benue State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

As gathered by iReporter Online, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, confirmed the development in a statement issued Friday from the state capital, Makurdi. The submission of the nominees marks the beginning of a fresh administrative phase following the recent dissolution of Alia’s executive council.

It will be recalled that on Wednesday, the governor abruptly sacked all 17 serving commissioners, along with his Chief of Staff, in what sources describe as a bid to inject renewed energy and direction into his government.

The new nominees include Theresa Odachi, Dr. Benjamin Ashaver, Dr. Margaret Adamu, and Dr. Peter Oboh. Others named in the first batch are Dr. Timothy Yangien, Mr. Denis Iyaighgba, Mr. James Dwem, and Dr. Paul Ogwuche.

Mr. Kula noted that a second batch of nominees is expected to be transmitted to the Assembly within days, emphasizing that the governor remains committed to building a team grounded in competence, transparency, and inclusivity to drive the state’s development agenda.

Political observers suggest the move signals a recalibration of Governor Alia’s leadership style as he enters a critical phase of his tenure.
