NFC Celebrates Funke Akindele’s Record-Breaking Cinema Triumph

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has extended its congratulations to celebrated filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele and the entire Behind The Scenes production team following the film’s historic box office achievement.

The movie has surpassed ₦2 billion in ticket sales, becoming the first Nollywood production in Africa to reach the milestone, a feat widely described as a landmark moment for the continent’s film industry.

Speaking on the achievement, NFC’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ali Nuhu, commended the film’s outstanding commercial performance both locally and internationally. He noted that Behind The Scenes has recorded remarkable success in key overseas markets, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it currently ranks as the highest-grossing Nollywood title.

Dr. Nuhu attributed the film’s success to a combination of strong creative direction, strategic production and distribution planning, and the unwavering commitment of the cast and crew. He described the accomplishment as evidence of Nollywood’s growing commercial strength and artistic maturity.

Released on December 12, 2025, Behind The Scenes has continued to attract audiences nationwide while setting multiple industry records. These include becoming the fastest film in West Africa to cross the ₦1 billion mark within weeks of release, achieving the highest single-day box office gross on Boxing Day, and now emerging as the first African film to exceed ₦2 billion in box office earnings.

The NFC described the milestone as a collective victory for Nollywood, the creative economy, and Nigerian storytelling on the global stage, while applauding filmmakers, exhibitors, distributors, and audiences whose support helped turn the project into a historic cinematic success.
