The Board noted that the development underscores the steady growth of the sector as well as its ongoing commitment to ensuring effective regulation, responsible storytelling, and adherence to national and international content standards.

The latest figure marks an increase from the 267 films classified within the same period in 2025, indicating a rising level of production activity across the industry.

Breakdown of the 2026 statistics shows that January recorded the highest number of classifications with 102 films, followed by 83 in February, 77 in March, and 42 in April. This contrasts with the 2025 quarterly pattern, where 25 films were classified in January, 58 in February, 114 in March, and 70 in April.

Language distribution of the classified films reveals that English-language productions dominated with 201 titles, followed by Igbo with 44, Yoruba with 42, Hindi with 9, Hausa with 5, and Bini with 3, highlighting the diversity of content being produced across different linguistic groups.

Further analysis of the classification ratings indicates that most of the films fell within the 15 and 18 age categories, reflecting prevailing themes in contemporary productions. Overall classification breakdown shows 10 films rated G, 16 rated PG, 18 rated 12/12A, 157 rated 15, and 103 rated 18.

The Director of Film Censorship and Classification, Deborah Malgwi, reiterated the Board’s commitment to promoting professionalism in filmmaking while encouraging responsible content creation aligned with societal values.

She also emphasized that film classification remains a key regulatory tool aimed at safeguarding children and vulnerable audiences from inappropriate content, while also guiding parents, guardians, and the general public in making informed viewing choices.
