Niger Delta Minister, Momoh, Commissions 91 kWp Solar Powered Mini-Grid in Okpokunou Community, Powered By Saf-Aga
In a historic moment for the Niger Delta region, Engr. Abubakar Momoh (FNSE), Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Development, officially commissioned the 91 kWp Solar Powered Mini-Grid in Okpokunou Community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. The groundbreaking initiative, spearheaded by Saf-Aga Renewable Energy Limited, marks a pivotal step in the fight against energy poverty and a giant leap towards sustainable development in the region.
Saf-Aga Renewable Energy Limited led by its MD/CEO Dr. Godbless Safugha and its technical partners has achieved a remarkable feat with the commissioning of the Okpokunou Mini-Grid, a scalable 230 kWp capacity system initially serving 330 households. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the company’s vision of establishing green villages throughout the Niger Delta, fostering economic growth, education, and healthcare through the provision of sustainable energy.
Hon. Minister Abubakar Momoh expressed his commendation for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of replicating such projects by private organizations across the Niger Delta and the entire nation. He passionately urged Nigerians to embrace clean and renewable energy solutions, highlighting the promising prospects the Okpokunou Mini-Grid holds for the people of the Niger Delta Region.
According to the Minister, this marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of innovative and eco-friendly energy solutions. He highlighted that the Niger Delta, with its vast potential and resources, deserves to be at the forefront of sustainable energy initiatives. Beyond its role in illuminating homes, the Okpokunou Mini-Grid paves the way for improved education, healthcare, and economic activities in the communities.
The Minister reiterated the Ministry of Niger Delta Development’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with Saf-Aga Renewable Energy Limited for the expansion of their reach to additional communities in the Nine Niger Delta states. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to address the energy challenges faced by the region and called on other private organizations to follow the example set by Saf-Aga in promoting clean and renewable energy solutions.
The official commissioning ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders, and representatives from Saf-Aga Renewable Energy Limited, showcasing the collaborative spirit and commitment to a sustainable, energy-rich future for the Niger Delta region.
