Nigeria Immigration Service React To Viral Video Of Woman Destroying Husband’s Passport
Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has reacted to the trending video of a woman destroying her husband’s passport at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos.
NIS said it has launched a formal investigation, following the circulation of the video on social media.
The video, as Ireporteronline reported earlier, shows a female traveler tearing a Nigerian Standard Passport.
One Mrs. Favour Igiebor, has been identified as the woman in the video, holding passport number A11990869.
Public Relations Officer of the NIS, Kenneth Udo, in a statement, revealed that the Comptroller General of NIS has directed that Mrs. Favour Igiebor be invited for further investigation.
The statement noted that if the allegations were substantiated, the woman’s action would constitute a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.
Udo reiterates that the “Nigeria Immigration Service remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the provisions of the Immigration Act in the interest of national security, and to preserve the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments.”
