Nigeria Isn’t Ready To End Insecurity’ – Rufai Oseni
Arise Television journalist Rufai Oseni has expressed concern over Nigeria’s persistent security challenges, arguing that the country is not yet prepared to completely eliminate kidnapping, banditry and terrorism.
According to Ireporter Online, Oseni made the remarks during Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday while discussing the worsening security situation across the country.
The journalist attributed the continued insecurity to what he described as widespread complicity involving sections of the government and the political elite. He questioned why individuals allegedly linked to insecurity continue to operate freely despite the enormous security challenges facing the country.
Oseni also referenced the recent attack in Woro, Kwara State, where residents reportedly alerted security authorities about a possible threat before bandits attacked the community.
He questioned how the attackers allegedly became aware that residents had contacted security agencies, suggesting that such incidents raise serious concerns about possible information leaks and complicity within the security system.
According to him, the persistence of such incidents makes it difficult to convince Nigerians that authorities are genuinely committed to ending insecurity.
Oseni argued that the problem cannot simply be blamed on a lack of security resources, stressing that stronger political will and a genuine commitment to confronting those facilitating criminal activities are required.
He maintained that Nigeria could significantly reduce insecurity if the government demonstrated sufficient determination to tackle those behind kidnapping, banditry and terrorism.
