Nigerian Army Begins 2026 Promotion Examination Nationwide

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Army has officially commenced the 2026 Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination, with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, directing members of the examination panel to uphold fairness, professionalism and integrity throughout the exercise.

The examination, regarded as a crucial stage in the career progression of senior officers, is designed to identify qualified personnel for advanced military training both within Nigeria and at recognised military institutions abroad.

A statement issued by the Nigerian Army disclosed that the examination began on August 2, 2026, and is being conducted simultaneously at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Postgraduate School in Kaduna and the Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff during the opening ceremony, the President of the Examination and Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Peter Malla, stressed that the credibility of the Army’s examination process must remain beyond reproach.

He urged members of the examination panel to remain objective, impartial and committed to the established guidelines, noting that they were selected based on their competence and proven record of service.

Malla described the Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination as one of the most important milestones in the professional development of Nigerian Army officers, explaining that successful candidates would become eligible for admission into the Senior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, as well as other recognised military institutions around the world.

He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for providing the necessary support to ensure the successful conduct of the exercise, reaffirming TRADOC’s commitment to achieving the objectives of the examination.

Also speaking, the Commander of the Infantry Corps Centre, Major General Godwin Mutkut, assured that comprehensive administrative, logistical and security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee a smooth and credible examination process.

Mutkut commended the Army Headquarters and the Training and Doctrine Command for their planning and coordination efforts, adding that maintaining the integrity of the examination remains essential to producing competent military leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The 2026 Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination is scheduled to run until August 14, 2026, with participating officers sitting for the exercise at the designated centres in Kaduna State.
