During the Nigerian Army’s civil-military media chat for the first quarter of 2024 held in Asaba, Delta State, Lt Gen Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, emphasized the imperative of military-media partnership for national security.

Under the theme “Imperatives of Military-Media Partnership for the Attainment of National Security,” the event condemned the actions of non-state actors seeking to undermine the country’s security, welfare, and overall prosperity.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Jamal Abdussalam highlighted the necessity for collective efforts to combat insecurity effectively and restore peace to the nation. He emphasized that non-state actors thrive on attention and exploitation to instill fear in law-abiding citizens.

The army chief reiterated the complexities of the current security landscape and the urgent need to address security challenges through re-strategizing and deploying troops appropriately across various theatres of operations.

He condemned the recent unprovoked killing of troops in Okuma Community, Delta State, emphasizing the barbarity of such acts and calling for collaboration to combat them.

Emphasizing the importance of a strengthened partnership between the Nigerian Army and the media, he stressed the role of communication in promoting peace, unity, and resilience.

Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, the chief of Civil-Military Affairs, underscored the crucial roles of the media-military partnership, highlighting the need for the military to engage with the media while maintaining operational security.

The special guest of honor, Mallam Jubrin Baba Ndache, Director General of Voice of Nigeria, commended the Nigerian Army for its dedication to protecting the nation and enhancing military-media relations, emphasizing the indispensable roles of both entities in their respective capacities.
