Nigerian Governor Approves N700m For Students’ Fees, N854m For Mass Wedding

The Kano State Executive Council has granted its approval for the allocation of N700 million to cover the school fees of 7,000 state indigenes enrolled at Bayero University Kano (BUK), as well as N854 million for the Auren Zaurawa Mass Wedding Initiative.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf confirmed this development on Thursday through his official X account, previously known as Twitter.

Governor Yusuf clarified that the decision to allocate N700 million for Kano students studying at BUK was reached during the state executive council meeting held on Wednesday, in response to the ongoing economic challenges facing the nation.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to alleviate the impact of our present economic situation, the Kano State Executive Council under my leadership has authorized the disbursement of a sum of Seven Hundred Million Naira to cover tuition fees for 7000 students of Bayero University Kano (BUK),” the governor expressed.

“Additional information about this initiative will be shared in due course.”

The council also disbursed funds for the initial phase of the Auren Zaurawa Mass Wedding Initiative and established a dedicated committee to address outstanding pension arrears for retirees of the Kano State Civil Service.

Additionally, the state administration sanctioned the renovation of pedestrian bridges at Bayero University Kano Old Campus, Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies, and Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.
