Nigerian Passport Ranks World’s 10th Worst Travel Document

According to the report, the Nigerian passport ranks higher than passports from North Korea (192), Iraq (193), Libya (194), Sudan (195), Pakistan (196), Afghanistan (197), Syria (198), and Somalia (199).

The VisaGuide World Passport Index utilizes the Destination Significance Score (DSS) to assess and rank passports worldwide. This ranking system considers various factors to determine the strength of passports and assigns a unique value to each.

In the latest index, the Singaporean passport holds the top position as the strongest passport globally, followed by the Italian passport. The Spanish, French, and German passports round out the top five rankings.

The report explains that the Destination Significance Score (DSS) is determined based on factors such as a country’s entry policy, GDP, Power Index, Tourism Index, and Human Development Index (HDI), among others. This score is then multiplied by the value of visa requirements for passport holders traveling to each destination.

Factors considered in the ranking process include visa-free travel, electronic travel authorization, visa on arrival, electronic visa (e-visa), embassy or government-approved visas, passport-free travel, and banned entry.

The report highlights that passports with access to destinations with higher DSS values are assigned higher overall rankings. Each passport receives a unique value based on these calculations, ensuring that no two countries have the same number of visa-free destinations.
